Olga Kleiankina

Olga Kleiankina’s talents both as a pianist and composer were evident at an early age. Born in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, she began her musical studies at the age of six. When she was nine years old she was giving recitals of her compositions, and at ten she won the Republic of Moldova’s National composition contest. From those early successes Ms. Kleiankina received degrees from St. Neaga College of Music in Kishinau, Moldova and from the Academy of Music Gh. Dima in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, followed by a Masters from Bowling Green State University where she studied with Maxim Mogilevsky. She is currently a DMA student at University of Michigan. She has won many awards and prizes including the XIth Pro Piano International Competition in Bucharest, Romania.About the Chopin Project, Ms. Kleiankina says, “I felt a lot of pressure preparing for these concerts and was more than a little anxious. But the audiences were very warm, and it turned out to be such a pleasure. Even though I didn’t happen to play any major works, (many of them were almost unknown, in fact!), I came to love all my pieces, and I felt the audience did too. Even though they were miniatures, I felt that each one was perfectly organized from the very inside - in a way, a microcosmos….part of the transcendental world of Chopin’s imagination.”
